What we are

We are a retail travel agent. People come to us with an idea of a trip, and we turn it into an itinerary that exists, is available on the dates they can travel, and costs what we said it would.

Kanes Travel sells travel arranged by licensed airlines, hotels, cruise lines and tour operators. It acts as the retail agent for those suppliers; it is not itself the organiser of the packages it sells unless a booking confirmation says so.

The work is mostly judgement rather than booking. Which of two fares is actually cheaper once you have added a bag and a seat. Whether ninety minutes is enough for that connection with a pushchair. Which deck of that ship is above the nightclub. Whether the all-inclusive includes the drinks people actually want. That is what a travel agent is for, and it is not a thing a search box does.

What we are licensed to do

Selling travel in Ireland is licensed work. Kanes Travel Agency Longford Limited holds Travel Agent Licence TA 0145, issued by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) under the Transport (Tour Operators and Travel Agents) Act 1982. The current licence runs to 30 April 2027, and the register the IAA publishes lists us by name and address, so you never have to take our word for it.

Our registered activity with the Companies Registration Office is NACE 79110, travel agency activities. The thing we advertise and the thing we are registered to do are the same thing, which is worth checking about anyone you are about to send money to.

What we are not

We are not a tour operator, and we do not organise the packages we sell unless a booking confirmation says so in terms. We are not an insurer; insurance is arranged through a regulated intermediary. We are not an immigration adviser and we cannot obtain a visa for anyone: we check requirements and prepare documentation, and the destination country decides.

We also do not take money through this website. There is no checkout on it. Payment is arranged with us directly once you have accepted a written quotation, and how our prices work sets out exactly what that quotation contains.
